Zelensky says Ukraine preparing new offensive
Ukrainian President noted, however, that in view of possible data leaks several plans will be drafted
MOSCOW, February 25. /TASS/. Ukraine is getting prepared for a new counteroffensive and already has a clear plan, Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky said.
"We have a plan, a clear plan. I cannot reveal details, I have no right to do this. This plan is linked with some changes in the command," he told a news conference when asked about Ukraine’s strategy for 2024.
He noted, however, that in view of possible data leaks several plans will be drafted. "And I why I make any reshuffles, this is our domestic affair," he said, commenting on the recent changes in the country’s military command.
Earlier, Zelensky dismissed Valery Zaluzhny as the country’s commander-in-chief and appointed Alexander Syrsky, who had been commander of the Ukrainian land troops, to this post.
The Ukrainian army has been making futile attempts to stage an offensive since the beginning of June, 2023. The Russian side has repeatedly stressed that despite big losses, Kiev has been failing to achieve any significant results. In a bid to justify the lack of any progress in the zone of combat operations, Ukraine’s authorities have been blaming NATO for insufficient supplies while NATO officials claim that they have shared with Ukraine everything it needs. On December 1, Zelensky acknowledged that Ukraine’s counteroffensive had failed.
Meanwhile, according to Russian Defense Minister Sergey Shoigu, during the so-called counteroffensive Ukraine lost 159,000 troops who were either killed or wounded, 121 aircraft, 766 tanks, and 2,348 armored combat vehicles.
