Kiev can export all grain harvested in 2023 via Black Sea corridor, G7 believes
The corridor in the Black Sea will "help feed the world", the statement said
ROME, February 24. /TASS/. Ukraine can export all grain, harvested in 2023, through the corridor in the Black Sea, says the outcome statement of the G7 online summit.
"As Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine continues to undermine global food security, we celebrate Ukraine’s success in significantly expanding food exports through the Black Sea, which will help feed the world. Thanks to Ukraine’s maritime corridor and the EU’s solidarity lanes, Ukraine is on track to export all grain from its 2023 harvest despite Russia’s attacks on Ukrainian ports and its withdrawal from the Black Sea Grain Initiative," the statement reads.
"We will continue to help Ukraine export its grain and agricultural products to the most vulnerable nations, including through the implementation of the Grain Verification Scheme that Ukraine will lead this year," the statement went on to say. "We call on Russia to cease its efforts to weaponize food supply and support safe commercial navigation of the Black Sea."
On 10 February, Russian envoy to the UN Vasily Nebenzya said in an interview with TASS that Russia does not see conditions to resume the grain deal. He said the initial humanitarian goals of the Black Sea Grain Initiative were quickly replaced by commercial objectives, so "instead of helping the most needy countries, it was successfully implemented in the interests of Kiev and beneficiaries including prosperous Western countries".
The grain deal expired on July 17, 2023.
