Russia-Ukraine conflict clash between Russia, West — Turkish parliament speaker
Numan Kurtulmus added that Turkey did "everything within its responsibility to work out a fair and permanent peaceful solution that would be acceptable to both sides"
ANKARA, February 22. /TASS/. Speaker of the Turkish Parliament (Majlis) Numan Kurtulmus believes the conflict between Russia and Ukraine is a clash between Russia and the West.
"As we see it, this is not only a war between Russia and Ukraine. Simultaneously, it is a clash between Russia and the collective West. Taking these features into account, if there is no solution to the crisis between Russia and Ukraine, it is obvious that it will set off a global clash," Kurtulmus said during a speech at the Asian Parliamentary Assembly meeting in Azerbaijan. The speech was broadcast by Turkey's Parliament TV.
He noted that "since the beginning of the Russia-Ukraine crisis, Turkey has both defended Ukraine's territorial integrity and done everything within its responsibility to work out a fair and permanent peaceful solution that would be acceptable to both sides." "And we continue to implement our commitments here. Agreements have been made on prisoner exchange. Turkey played a vital role in the Black Sea Grain Initiative, which prevented a sharp rise in global food prices," Kurtulmus said.
He hopes that the conflict between Russia and Ukraine "will be resolved in the very near future in a fair and permanent manner for the sake of humanity."
