According to the channel, Syrian air defenses opened fire on enemy targets in the skies above Damascus and took down several missiles over the southern part of the city
BEIRUT, February 21. /TASS/. The Israeli Air Force has carried out missile strikes on the Syrian capital and its environs, the Sham FM radio station reported.
According to the channel, Syrian air defenses opened fire on enemy targets in the skies above Damascus and took down several missiles over the southern part of the city.
The Israeli strike came several hours after the missile attack on the Kafar Souseh neighborhood in the southwest of the capital, the radio station noted.
Earlier, a Syrian army spokesman said that Israel attacked a residential building in the southwest of the Syrian capital at 9:40 a.m. Syrian time (6:40 a.m. GMT). As a result, two people died and one was injured. The communique said that Israeli forces fired the missiles from the occupied Golan Heights.
The Al Hadath TV channel reported that two advisers of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, an elite branch of Iran’s armed forces, died in the attack, but Tehran refuted this information.
Damascus’ Kafar Souseh neighborhood houses governmental structures such as state institutions, law enforcement agencies, as well as embassies.
On January 20, 2024, General Yousef Omid Zadeh, commander of the IRGC's Al-Quds intelligence service, was also killed in an Israeli Air Force strike on a mansion in the Mezzeh neighborhood of Damascus. On December 25, 2023, IRGC General Razi Mousavi, who led a team of Iranian military advisors in Syria, was killed in a southern suburb of Damascus.
