Ecuador will not send weapons to Ukraine, top diplomat says
According to Gabriela Sommerfeld, Ecuador stands "for the peaceful resolution of conflicts"
BUENOS AIRES, February 19. /TASS/. Ecuador will not send weapons to Ukraine because Kiev is involved in a conflict, Ecuadorian Foreign Minister Gabriela Sommerfeld said.
"President [Daniel] Noboa has issued clear instructions not to send military equipment to any country involved in an international armed conflict," she pointed out at a parliamentary commission meeting, which was broadcast on her page on Facebook (prohibited in Russia due to its ownership by Meta, which has been designated as extremist).
According to Sommerfeld, Ecuador stands "for the peaceful resolution of conflicts."
Noboa announced on January 10 that Quito would hand its Russian-and Ukrainian-made military hardware over to the US in exchange for new equipment worth $200 mln. US Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for the Western Hemisphere Affairs Kevin Sullivan, in turn, said in February that the Russian-made equipment from Ecuador would be sent to Ukraine.
