MINSK, January 16. /TASS/. The main takeaway from the new Military Doctrine of Belarus is that no nation is that the Republic considers no nation to be its enemy, regardless of what its government does, Defense Minister Viktor Khrenin stated at a meeting with President Alexander Lukashenko.

"We explicitly emphasize in it [the updated Military Doctrine] that no nation is considered to be Belarus’ enemy, despite the actions of its government. This is the key message, the spirit of the Military Doctrine," BelTA news agency reported, citing Khrenin.

The senior official stressed that the essence of the document resonated with the peaceful nature of the Belarusian people. According to Khrenin, the Doctrine is a foundational document, "which reflects the basic official views of the state on peace and war, on the use of military force to respond to existing challenges and threats."

In a March 6, 2023 resolution, the Security Council of Belarus charged the Defense Ministry with laying down a new military doctrine "in response to the recent changes in the military-strategic situation". With global geopolitical tensions escalating, the resolution also prescribes "to concentrate the efforts of the competent authorities on strategic deterrence to protect the country’s independence, territorial integrity, sovereignty and constitutional order from external and internal threats." The current Military Doctrine of Belarus was adopted in July 2016.
