Stephane Sejourne is expected to meet with Zelensky to "demonstrate France's support for Ukraine"
PARIS, January 12. /TASS/. France's new Foreign Minister Stephane Sejourne’s first foreign trip as foreign policy chief will be to Kiev, where he will meet with Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky, the AFP news agency reported, citing a source.
"The minister is on his way to Kiev," AFP quoted the source as saying.
Sejourne is expected to meet with Zelensky to "demonstrate France's support for Ukraine."
The trip was planned ahead of the French government reshuffle and Sejourne's appointment, with his predecessor Catherine Colonna due to travel to Kiev.
Earlier on Friday at a delegation ceremony at the Foreign Ministry building on the Quai d'Orsay in Paris, Sejourne said his first trips as head of French diplomacy would be to Berlin and Warsaw to strengthen cooperation within the Weimar Triangle.
The Weimar Triangle is a trilateral political institution of Germany, France and Poland. It was established on August 28-29, 1991. Initially, it aimed to develop cooperation between the three countries and was conceived as a tool to bring Poland closer to the EU and NATO.
