The government plans to keep the eastern border closed until further notice but it is not ruled out that the closure will stay in place for a limited period

HELSINKI, January 10. /TASS/. Finland is considering a number of options for what to do with its checkpoints on the border with Russia, from extending their closure for an indefinite period to closing them "until further notice," the Ilta-Sanomat newspaper reported.

As of midday on Wednesday, no decision has been made, according to the Finnish media.

The government plans to keep the eastern border closed until further notice but it is not ruled out that the closure will stay in place for a limited period, for instance, one month, Ilta-Sanomat said.

In November 2023, Finland closed all eight of its pedestrian crossings on the eastern border, saying the move was motivated by Russia’s alleged campaign to let migrants from third countries reach the Finnish border.

Two crossings were opened on December 12 only to be closed again on December 14 for a period of one month "due to security considerations," according to the Finnish side.
