BEIJING, December 21. /TASS/. About 1,000 injured individuals have been admitted to hospitals following an earthquake in northwestern China on Monday, Xinhua reported.
According to the news agency, hospitals in Gansu Province admitted 784 people. As reported earlier, 198 residents were injured in the neighboring Qinghai Province.
According to the latest data, the death toll has climbed to 135.
In addition to hospitals, 19 temporary first-aid stations and a mobile hospital have been set up in Gansu. According to the local healthcare directorate, over two dozen medical teams have been dispatched to 35 affected villages to examine residents. The residents are supplied with sets of medications and psychological aid is provided.
A series of tremors up to 6.2 in magnitude were recorded in Linxia Hui Autonomous Prefecture of Gansu Province. The source of the earthquake was 10 km below the surface. According to weather forecasts, in the coming days, in the area affected by the natural disaster, temperatures may rise to 5 degrees Centigrade during the day and drop to -14 degrees at night. The average altitude above sea level in the mountainous region where the earthquake struck is 2,000 m.
