More Ukrainians ready to cede territory to Russia to start negotiations, poll shows
According to it, about 19% of the respondents said that Ukraine needed to make territorial concessions to Russia
NEW YORK, December 15. /TASS/. More and more Ukrainians are ready to make territorial concessions to Russia in exchange for a stop to the fighting and the start of peace talks, Bloomberg reported citing the results of a telephone survey by the Kiev International Institute of Sociology (KIIS).
According to it, about 19% of the respondents said that Ukraine needed to make territorial concessions to Russia. The number of supporters of such a step amounted to 14% in October and 10% in May. Conversely, the number of opponents of concessions continues to decline - from 84% in May to 80% in October and 74% in December. Moreover, the institute points out that the greatest increase in willingness to compromise was recorded among the population in the western and central regions of the country.
The survey was conducted from November 29 to December 9. More than 1,000 respondents participated in the survey.
Earlier, NBC quoted US officials as saying that the US and Europe were talking to Ukraine about a potential peace deal with Russia and what Kiev might have to give up in order to reach a compromise. According to the TV station, US and European officials have "started talking calmly" with Kiev about the possible implications of peace talks with Moscow for ending the conflict. A number of these conversations took place back in October, the channel said.
