Major overhaul: Argentina's new president Javier Milei halves number of ministries
A total of nine ministries will remain in the republic: Foreign Affairs, Economy, Security, Defense, Human Capital, Justice, Infrastructure, Health, and Internal Affairs
BUENOS AIRES, December 13. /TASS/. Argentina's new Minister of Economy Luis Caputo has announced that President Javier Milei’s government is cutting the country’s number of ministries from 18 to 9.
"According to ‘The Law on Ministries’ signed by the President, the number of ministries will be reduced from 18 to 9, and the secretariats - from 106 to 54. This will result in a 50% reduction in leadership positions for civil servants and a 34% decrease in the total number of political positions," he said in his address introducing the government's first economic reforms.
Milei earlier decreed that a total of nine ministries will remain in the republic: Foreign Affairs, Economy, Security, Defense, Human Capital, Justice, Infrastructure, Health, and Internal Affairs.
Previously, Argentina’s government also had the ministries of Transport, Public Works, Science, Territorial Development and Habitat, Culture, Environment, Tourism, Livestock and Agriculture, and Women's Affairs.
