UNITED NATIONS, December 12. /TASS/. The efforts toward peace in Ukraine were torpedoed by Washington, Ann Wright, a retired US State Department official, said on Monday.

"When we do have peace talks, they must not be torpedoed. The United States of America is allegedly behind it. I don't think `allegedly’, like there's plenty of documentation. The former German chancellor has said that his efforts at trying to get peace on Ukraine and Russia were torpedoed by the United States and Israeli ex-Prime Minister Naftali Bennett said the same things," she said at a UN Security Council meeting discussing the situation in Ukraine.

"We must be working for peace and not trying to undo it," Wright added.

In a recent interview with Berliner Zeitung, former German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder said that Ukrainian officials refused to conclude a peace agreement with Russia at the Istanbul talks in March 2022.
