Javier Milei sworn in as Argentinian President
Following the inauguration ceremony, the new president is expected to deliver his first speech as the head of state
BUENOS AIRES, December 10. /TASS/. Javier Milei has been sworn in as Argentinian President. The ceremony was held at the building of the National Congress of Argentina on Sunday.
After Milei pronounced the oath of office, outgoing President Alberto Fernandez handed over presidential insignia to Milei.
Following the inauguration ceremony, the new president is expected to deliver his first speech as the head of state.
The libertarian politician stands for the state’s minimal interference into economic affairs, calls for dissolving the Central Bank as an anti-inflation measure, and promises to privatize government-run companies. Apart from that, he doesn’t exclude the use of US dollars.
During the election campaign, Milei repeatedly stated that he does not intend to develop interstate relations with Brazil, China and Russia because of his disagreement with the policies of these states. At the same time, he stated that he would not prevent private companies from doing business with these countries. He considers Israel and the US as Argentina's priority allies. Milei's foreign policy adviser Diana Mondino said in late October that the Freedom Advances alliance saw no point in Argentina's participation in BRICS, where the country was admitted following the group's August summit.
Milei was elected Argentinian President in a runoff voting on November 19, outperforming Economy Minister Sergio Massa.
