Finland mulls reopening checkpoints on Russian border – newspaper

STOCKHOLM, December 8. /TASS/. Finland is looking at opening one or more checkpoints on the border with Russia next week, the Helsingin Sanomat newspaper reported, citing its sources.
According to the newspaper, no decision has been made as of yet, however the cabinet is expected to make an announcement about opening the crossings on December 12. Today, there are no threats that necessitate completely closing the border with Russia, the government sources said. The situation along the border and in its vicinity has been quite calm, the newspaper added.
The government is reportedly considering two options: to keep the eastern border closed to all vehicles except for freight trains or to open one or more crossings.
Finland has closed all checkpoints on the border with Russia until December 13.
