"The conditions for the effective delivery of humanitarian aid no longer exist," Antonio Guterres said

UNITED NATIONS, December 8. /TASS/. It has become impossible to implement the humanitarian resolution of the United Nations Security Council regarding the Israeli-Palestinian conflict after hostilities resumed, UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres said.

"I deeply regret to inform the Council that under [the] current conditions on the ground, the fulfillment of this mandate has become impossible," he said addressing the UN Security Council.

"The conditions for the effective delivery of humanitarian aid no longer exist," he said. "Intense bombardment and hostilities, Israeli restrictions on movement, fuel shortages and interrupted communications make it impossible for UN agencies and their partners to reach most of the people in need."

On November 15, the UN Security Council passed the Middle East humanitarian resolution, which was drafted by Malta, seeking to help children in the area of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Twelve members of the 15-seat Security Council supported the resolution, whereas Russia, the UK, and the US abstained. The UN Security Council voted down Moscow’s amendment to the resolution, which called for humanitarian pauses that should be long enough to help civilians.
