UNITED NATIONS, December 8. /TASS/. Russia calls for an end to the violence between Israel and Palestine, said Dmitry Polyansky, Russia’s first deputy envoy to the UN.

"Russia calls for an end to the cycle of violence that has begun since the escalation between Israel and Palestine on October 7. We join the calls to achieve a permanent ceasefire and to overcome the root causes of the conflict, call for an end to the humanitarian catastrophe in the Gaza Strip, and strongly condemn any actions that could lead to the deaths of civilians, including women and children," he said, in the Arabic language, at a UN Security Council meeting dedicated to the Middle East.

Again speaking in Arabic, Polyansky said Russia "does not accept any attempts to forcibly move the people of Gaza to the south" and called on all UN Security Council members to vote for the UAE-sponsored resolution.

Earlier this week, the UAE circulated to Security Council members its proposal for a humanitarian resolution on the Palestinian-Israeli conflict. The proposal calls for an immediate ceasefire, the immediate release of all hostages, and for all sides to honor their obligations under international humanitarian law. On Thursday, US deputy envoy to the UN Robert Wood told reporters that the US believes no amount of new UN Security Council resolutions on the Gaza Strip would help the current situation.
