DUBAI, December 3. /TASS/. The US Navy USS Carney destroyer and several commercial ships in the Red Sea were attacked with the use of missiles and drones launched from Yemeni territory, the Al Jazeera television channel reported, citing an unnamed Pentagon official.
According to the official, the US destroyer responded to a distress signal from a commercial ship. It downed a drone and detected at least one ballistic missile targeting the commercial ship. The USS Carney repelled the attack of drones and missiles fired from the Houthi-controlled territory, the official said, adding that no one was hurt.
The Pentagon official did not say however whether the commercial ship was hit or not.
Al Jazeera said earlier citing Yemeni sources that one of two presumably Israeli ships was damaged as a result of the Houthi attack in the Red Sea.
The Al Hadath television channel said earlier on Sunday, citing sources, that the Houthi staged a drone attack on a British commercial vessel in the Bab el-Mandeb Strait. It ship was reportedly flying the British flag and had a British crew. Sources said that US and Israeli warships had repelled the attack.
The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations said earlier that it had received information about increased drone activity and, presumably, an explosion in the Ban el-Mandeb Strait.
