IAEA head states growing number of attacks near nuclear power plants in Ukraine
According to IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi, IAEA is deeply concerned about that
PARIS, November 29. /TASS/. The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) is concerned over the growing number of attacks near Ukrainian nuclear power plants, IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi said.
"The hostilities have intensified. The growing number of attacks is being observed near the Zaporozhye NPP, where our expert mission operates, as well as in the direct proximity of other Ukrainian power plants," Grossi said, according to the AFP. "We are deeply concerned about that."
The Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant is located in Energodar and includes six reactors with the total power of 6 Gigawatts. This is the largest nuclear power plant in Europe.
In late February, 2022, the power plant was taken under control by Russian forces. Since then, Ukrainian forces have repeatedly been shelling residential areas of Energodar, as well as the power plant territory using drones, heavy artillery and multiple launch rocket systems. IAEA experts have been present at the power plant since September 1, 2022.
