YEREVAN, November 28. /TASS/. Armenia and Azerbaijan may sign a peace agreement in the next 15 days if Baku exhibits the necessary political will, Armenian National Assembly Speaker Alen Simonyan said at a news briefing.

"If desired, a peace agreement can be signed within the next 15 days, given that the authorities in Azerbaijan do show the [necessary] political will [for it]," the top Armenian lawmaker said. He refused to elaborate, however, so as "not to harm the process."

According to Simonyan, Yerevan has forwarded another edited draft agreement to Baku, and "now the ball is in Azerbaijan’s court." "The Armenian side has not refused to meet a single time. And I don’t understand how Azerbaijan or the region could benefit from a delay," he added.

Earlier, Armenia presented three basic principles for a peace treaty with Azerbaijan. According to Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, the first of these principles is the mutual recognition of the territorial integrity of Armenia and Azerbaijan with the understanding that the national territory of Armenia is 29,800 square kilometers and that of Azerbaijan is 86,600 square kilometers. The second principle is the demarcation of the borders in accordance with the 1991 Almaty Declaration. Pashinyan also said that the third principle for achieving peace with Azerbaijan is the resumption of regional transport links based on the principles of sovereignty, jurisdiction, reciprocity and the equality of countries.
