Al Arabiya describes Israeli army’s recent actions in Gaza as first ceasefire violation
According to the broadcaster, Israeli tanks opened fire in the south of the enclave, east of the cities of Rafah and Khan Younis
DUBAI, November 28. /TASS/. The Al Arabiya TV channel has described the Israel Defense Forces’ (IDF) recent actions in the Gaza Strip as the first ceasefire violation.
According to the broadcaster, Israeli tanks opened fire in the south of the enclave, east of the cities of Rafah and Khan Younis. The TV channel also reported that IDF forces had used stun grenades.
The Qatar-based Al Jazeera TV channel, in turn, said that Israeli forces were shooting from tanks in the north of the enclave, northwest of Gaza City.
The Al Arabiya and Al Hadath TV channels reported earlier on Tuesday that explosions and shooting had been heard west of Gaza City, while Israeli troops opened concentrated fire east of Khan Younis.
Under an agreement brokered by Egypt, Qatar and the US, an additional two-day humanitarian pause was supposed to begin at 7:00 a.m. local time (5:00 a.m. GMT). The pause was expected to last until November 30.
Taher al-Nunu, spokesman for Hamas Political Bureau chief Ismail Haniyeh, told TASS earlier that the new deal with Israel would be based on the same terms, that is, three Palestinian prisoners would be released in exchange for every Israeli hostage freed by the Hamas movement. Besides, 200 trucks carrying humanitarian aid will enter Gaza, and half of them are supposed to be allowed to go to the north of the enclave.
The Hamas movement announced on November 22 that an agreement on a four-day humanitarian ceasefire in the Gaza Strip had been reached through the mediation of Qatar and Egypt. The agreement stipulates the release of 50 women and children under the age of 19 who are held in Gaza in exchange for the release of 150 women and children under the age of 19 from Israeli prisons. The Gaza ceasefire took effect at 7:00 a.m. local time (5:00 a.m. GMT) on November 24, when the first group of hostages was released.
