NEW YORK, November 26. /TASS/. Hamas has released a four-year American-Israeli girl, the first US hostage to be released under Hamas’ deal with Israel, CNN reported.
The girl, Abigail Edan, was taken hostage by Hamas on October 7. Her parents were killed.
US National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan said earlier that the Biden administration hopes that on Sunday Hamas would release at least on US national from among those held hostage in the Gaza Strip.
Since November 24, Hamas has released two groups of hostages but there were no American nationals in either of them. The first group included 13 Israelis, ten Thais, and one Philippine national. The second group consisted of 13 Israelis and four Thais.
Hamas announced on November 22 that an agreement on a four-day humanitarian ceasefire in the Gaza Strip had been reached through the mediation of Qatar and Egypt. The agreement stipulates the release of 50 women and children under the age of 19 who are held in Gaza in exchange for the release of 150 women and children under the age of 19 from Israeli prisons.
A four-day ceasefire came into force in the Gaza Strip from 8:00 a.m. local time (5:00 a.m. GMT) on November 24.
