Second group of hostages arrives in Israel, army says
They are being escorted by special forces and members of the Shin Bet security agency
TEL AVIV, November 26. /TASS/. The second group of hostages released by Hamas has arrived in Israel, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said.
They are being escorted by special forces and members of the Shin Bet security agency.
The released hostages have undergone an initial medical assessment. "Our forces are accompanying the released hostages until they reach their families in the hospitals," the army said.
"We will continue to work together with the defense establishment’s bodies for the return of all the hostages," the IDF noted. The army also asked the public to "show patience and sensitivity and respect the privacy of released hostages and their families."
Meanwhile, the Israeli prime minister’s office has published the list of the 13 released Israeli citizens. Four Thai nationals were also freed in the second group.
The Palestinian movement Hamas announced on November 22 that an agreement on a four-day humanitarian ceasefire in the Gaza Strip had been reached through the mediation of Qatar and Egypt. The agreement stipulates the release of 50 women and children under the age of 19 who are held in Gaza in exchange for the release of 150 women and children under the age of 19 from Israeli prisons. The Gaza ceasefire took effect at 7:00 a.m. local time (5:00 a.m. GMT) on November 24.
On the first day of the ceasefire, Hamas released 13 Israeli citizens, while Israel freed 39 Palestinians from jails. In addition, the Palestinian movement also released ten Thai nationals and a Filipino citizen under a separate deal.
