VIENNA, November 24. /TASS/. Experts of the International Atomic Energy Agency have concluded that the recent emergency response exercise at the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant went according to plan.
"Thursday’s exercise focused on actions that should be taken in response to a hypothetical break of a pipe containing radioactive wastewater and the disconnection of power from one reactor unit," the agency said in a statement. "Overall, the IAEA experts said the exercise scenario was carried out as planned."
IAEA experts also observed preparations for the evacuation of some plant staff, which were part of the exercise.
On November 23, the Russian Federal Service for Environmental, Technological and Nuclear Supervision said it had checked the readiness of staff at the Zaporozhye NPP to respond to emergencies. The inspection found no shortcomings that could affect the safety of the plant.
