Armenian PM accuses Russian TV channels of violating broadcasting agreement
According to Nikol Pashinyan, the Ministry of High-Tech Industry has sent an official letter to Moscow, inviting it to take part in consultations to discuss the situation and figure out the details
YEREVAN, November 24. /TASS/. Russian TV channels broadcasting in Armenia are violating the rules of a relevant agreement, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said.
"There is a clear provision in the agreement that no steps should be taken to interfere in the country’s internal affairs and sow instability in the country. In recent months, our government agencies have recorded some problems related to violations of the agreement. Given friendly relations between Armenia and Russia, the Ministry of High-Tech Industry has sent an official letter to Moscow, inviting it to take part in consultations to discuss the situation and figure out what is going on here. I hope that these consultations will take place as soon as possible so that we can resolve these issues in a friendly atmosphere," Pashinyan said, answering questions from Armenian citizens.
On October 24, the Armenian Foreign Ministry said that it had summoned Russian Ambassador to Yerevan Sergey Kopyrkin over a Channel One TV show, "which included some insulting and completely unacceptable remarks about high-ranking Armenian officials."
The country’s leadership has recently come out with a number of harsh statements against Moscow. In September, Armenia and the US held joint drills; in October, Yerevan ratified the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court, claiming that the move had nothing to do with Russia. However, Moscow slammed the move as absolutely unfriendly.
