"The silence of Western governments in the face of the crimes in the Gaza Strip and their inability even to call for a ceasefire reveal their moral and political failure," Hakan Fidan emphasized

ISTANBUL, November 24. /TASS/. Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan has called on Western counties to distance themselves from Israel and its war crimes.

"The silence of Western governments in the face of the crimes [in the Gaza Strip] and their inability even to call for a ceasefire reveal their moral and political failure. Such a situation is fraught with risks of a total loss of trust in international law. It is high time the Western world distances itself from the war crimes committed by Israel. Any support for Israel, either on certain conditions or unconditional, is carte blanche for further killings of Palestinians," he said at a strategic communications summit in Istanbul.

According to the top Turkish diplomat, the only way to resolve the Palestinian problem is to recognize the existence of a free Palestinian State with a capital in East Jerusalem. "Turkey is doing its utmost in two areas. First, to ensure a complete ceasefire and unimpeded humanitarian deliveries to the region, and, second, to resolve the problem on the basis of a two-state principle. We are making active diplomatic efforts and will not abandon our support for Palestine," Fidan stressed.
