Ukraine to roll out Germany's Patriot air defense system in winter
Accoridng to German Ambassador to Kiev Martin Eger, things may become very difficult in winter
MOSCOW, November 24. /TASS/. Another Patriot air defense system provided by Berlin will be deployed in Ukraine in winter, German Ambassador to Kiev Martin Eger said.
"Things may become very difficult in winter. Ukraine did everything possible to prepare for the situation, and we assisted in its preparations. I have already spoken about our support for the country’s air defense capabilities. In addition to the above-mentioned IRIS-T system, another Patriot system from Germany will be deployed here in winter," the envoy pointed out in an interview with the Ukrinform news agency.
Germany’s DPA media outlet reported on October 5 that the country’s Chancellor Olaf Scholz had promised to provide Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky with another Patriot system for Kiev.
Berlin has sent one such system to Ukraine to date. In early October, the German Defense Ministry announced that another aid package worth one bln euros would be provided to Kiev before the winter. The package includes additional air defense systems (Patriot, IRIS-T SLM and IRIS-T SLS), as well as three Gepard self-propelled systems. However, Berlin did not specify when the new Patriot system would be delivered and deployed to Ukraine. German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius said on November 21 that Berlin would send another four IRIS-T SLM air defense systems to Ukraine.
