EU deeply concerned over growing military cooperation of Russia, DPRK — Borrell
The EU top diplomat demanded that Pyongyang ceases "all illegal and dangerous actions that escalate military tensions in the region"
BRUSSELS, November 23. /TASS/. The EU strongly condemns the DPRK satellite launch and is deeply concerned over the growing military cooperation between Moscow and Pyongyang, EU High Representative Josep Borrell said in a statement.
"The European Union strongly condemns the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea’s (DPRK) launch of a military satellite using ballistic missile technology on 21 November," Borrell said, claiming that this "represents a clear threat to international peace and security and constitutes a flagrant violation of UN Security Council resolutions that prohibit such launches."
He demanded that Pyongyang ceases "all illegal and dangerous actions that escalate military tensions in the region."
"The EU reiterates its deep concern about deepening military cooperation between Russia and the DPRK, potentially in violation of UN Security Council resolutions," the statement reads. He also expressed concerns over reports of alleged transfers of arms, which could be used in the special military operation in Ukraine, to Russia.
In the name of the EU, Borrell expressed "full solidarity with the Republic of Korea and Japan."
On November 21, North Korea made the third attempt to launch a military reconnaissance satellite, which was successful, according to the KCNA. The satellite was reportedly taken into orbit.
On November 11, Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova noted that Western allegations of the illegal military-technical cooperation between Russia and North Korea are unsubstantiated. Earlier, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov called Washington’s claims that Pyongyang provides military aid to Moscow mere rumors.
