CSTO’s role grows amid tense geopolitical situation — Belarusian Security Council
According to Belarusian Security Council State Secretary Alexander Volfovich, this has been proven by life and practice
MINSK, November 23. /TASS/. The role and significance of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) grows amid the tense geopolitical situation, Belarusian Security Council State Secretary Alexander Volfovich said on Thursday.
"At this uneasy time, when the geopolitical situation is really tense, the role and significance of the CSTO, undoubtedly, grows. This has been proven by life and practice. It [the CSTO] is reckoned with by the strongest organizations, such as the SCO [Shanghai Cooperation Organization] and close interaction with it has been established," the media outlet SB. Belarus Today quoted Volfovich as saying.
"This was one of the main directions of improving the work of the Collective Security Treaty Organization with the SCO during the Belarusian side’s chair," he added.
As Volfovich pointed out, the Belarusian side "managed to do it."
The CSTO’s key role is to ensure peace and security on the territory of its member states and see to it that "other post-Soviet and far abroad countries join it," he said.
"And there are indications of that. I believe that our organization will eventually be considerably broader than today. This is a process that is underway," Volfovich said.
