Samarkand to host next UNESCO General Assembly session in 2025
For the first time in more than 40 years, a UNESCO General Assembly session will be held outside Paris
TASHKENT, November 23. /TASS/. The next, 43rd, session of the UNESCO General Assembly will he held in Samarkand in 2025, the Uzbek foreign ministry said.
"The 42nd General Assembly session, which is being held in the French capital city, has supported Uzbekistan’s proposal to hold the next, 43rd, session in 2025 in the city of Samarkand and passed a relevant resolution," it said. "For the first time in more than 40 years, a UNESCO General Assembly session will be held outside Paris."
"This is a diplomatic success," the ministry quoted President of the 42nd session Simona-Mirela Miculescu as saying.
Set up in 1945 and headquartered in Paris, UNESCO - the United Nations Education, Scientific and Cultural Organization - now has 193 member states.
