FBI completes probe into Rainbow Bridge car explosion, says it was traffic accident
The matter has been turned over to the Niagara Falls Police Department as a traffic investigation
NEW YORK, November 23. /TASS/. The US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) said it has completed the probe into the car blast at the Rainbow Bridge connecting the United States and Canada at Niagara Falls and referred the case to the local police as a traffic accident.
"FBI Buffalo has concluded investigation at the scene of the Rainbow Bridge accident. A search of the scene reveled no explosive materials, and no terrorism nexus was identified. The matter has been turned over to the Niagara Falls Police Department as a traffic investigation," it wrote on its X (formerly known as Twitter) account.
The accident occurred on Wednesday when a car rammed the checkpoint on the US side of the Rainbow Bridge. According to witnesses, the car was running at a speed of more than 160 km/h. As a result, the car caught fire. There were two people inside, both died. A border officer who happened to be nearby received minor injuries. According to the local media, it was a stolen car.
Commissioned in 1941, the 440-meter Rainbow Bridge is located near the Niagara Falls and links Canada and the United States.
