BELGRADE, November 20. /TASS/. Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic has admitted that things may get much worse for the republic amid elections in 2024 in Russia, the US, Taiwan and possibly Ukraine.

"If you look at the elections that will take place around the world - in January in Taiwan, at the end of the year in the US - all those elections, along with the Russian and probably the Ukrainian ones, will represent an opportunity for change or the formation of new values at the global political level," the head of state said, speaking at a gathering in honor of the 182nd anniversary of the Serbian Academy of Science and Arts. "What scares me is that in this era of social media, when pandering to the public, collecting so-called likes becomes the most important thing, I am afraid that this year will be much more difficult for the whole world and for us - Serbs and citizens of Serbia," Vucic pointed out.

The Serbian leader fears that 2024 "will bring much more conflict and turmoil than the previous or current year brought." "When I say this, I also mean threats to our people in Kosovo and Metohija, Republika Srpska (the entity of Bosnia and Herzegovina - TASS) and many other parts of our region," Vucic said. "In these conditions, with all these elections in mind, do not expect the situation to get any better for us. On the contrary, I expect the worst situation for Serbia in the history of our country." Meanwhile, the president expressed hope that next year will be "the end of trials, problems and suffering" for Serbia.
