Israel's aggression against the Palestinian people and harassment in the Gaza Strip significantly increases the probability of tensions escalating in the entire Middle East region, Secretary General of the League of Arab States (LAS) Ahmed Aboul Gheit said at the summit taking place in Saudi Arabia.

"The continued oppression of the Palestinians in Gaza increases the likelihood of escalation throughout the Middle East region," the LAS chief said. According to Ahmed Aboul Gheit, "despite the deplorable, shocking attitude of certain countries [towards the events in Gaza], the world is now experiencing an awakening as a result of this Israeli aggression against the Palestinian people.".
