UN unaware if prohibited weapons are used in Gaza — UN chief’s office
"We do not have any visibility on that as the fighting goes on. There will be - as I think as in any conflict, there will be time for accountability through different mechanisms in the UN," he said
UNITED NATIONS, November 10. /TASS/. The United Nations has no information about the types of weapons used in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, including the possible use of prohibited ones, Spokesperson for the UN Secretary General Stephane Dujarric said.
A reporter told Dujarric that Israel has been using a wide range of weapons for bombardment and asked who in the UN was recording the cases when internationally banned weapons were used, if such were taking place.
"We do not have any visibility on that as the fighting goes on. There will be - as I think as in any conflict, there will be time for accountability through different mechanisms in the UN," he said.
Earlier, the Palestinian Foreign Ministry put the blame for the use of phosphorus and cluster munitions in the Gaza Strip on Israel. Justice Minister Muhammed Al-Shalalda said that Palestine had filed a request to the International Criminal Court, asking to tackle Israel’s alleged use of banned weapons to bomb the enclave.
