TOKYO, November 10. /TASS/. Tokyo regrets Moscow’s decision to terminate the bilateral cooperation agreement to assist the destruction of nuclear weapons reduced in Russia, Chief Cabinet Secretary Hirokazu Matsuno told a press conference.
"We regret this decision, made unilaterally without notifying the Japanese side. We intend to confirm the details of what happened through diplomatic channels," he said.
On November 9, Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin signed the order to terminate the document.
The purpose of the agreement was to promote the safe elimination of nuclear weapons, which Moscow was required to reduce in accordance with bilateral or multilateral treaties, as well as its unilateral decisions. For this purpose, a special committee was created, in which Moscow and Tokyo determined priority areas for such interaction, exchanged information and research results, and developed specific cooperation programs.
