MOSCOW, November 9. /TASS/. The decision to hold a presidential election is Ukraine’s business, Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov said in an interview with the Life portal as he insisted that Kiev come to terms with the fact that it has no chance of defeating Russia.

Commenting on the possibility of Ukraine holding a presidential election, Peskov said that Moscow was monitoring the issue. "As far as I understand, they haven’t made a decision yet, as they are weighing the pros and cons. That’s their internal affair, and it doesn’t concern us this time around. It is very important to us that the Kiev regime understand as soon as possible that discussing the idea of defeating Russia on the battlefield is absurd," he emphasized.

Ukraine is supposed to hold a regular presidential election next spring. However, Ukrainian law forbids elections from taking place during wartime. Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky has repeatedly said that there can be no elections until the hostilities end. However, Kiev’s Western allies insist that it hold the election on time.

Republican US senator Lindsey Graham, for one, has said that Ukraine should hold a presidential election, despite the hostilities. After that, Zelensky somewhat tweaked his rhetoric, but, in an interview, he has not ruled out elections only if the West sponsors them.
