Turkish Foreign Ministry lambasts EU’s ‘inconsistency, double standards’
The Turkish Foreign Ministry noted that this raises concerns for the future of the continent, which faces numerous threats
ANKARA, November 8. /TASS/. The European Union shows inconsistency, double standards and insincerity in its negotiations with Ankara, the Turkish Foreign Ministry said in a statement, following the 2023 Enlargement Package published by the European Commission, which includes the negotiation process on Turkey’s EU membership.
"The report made by the EC (European Commission - TASS) has preserved unfair and biased attitudes to our country. This raises concerns about the future of our continent, which is facing numerous threats. We absolutely reject the groundless accusations and unfair criticism in the report. The EU continues to politicize and obstruct the negotiation process that would help overcome the present obstacles and disagreements," the statement said.
The Foreign Ministry pointed out that "on the one hand, the EU blocks the current mechanisms of high-level dialogue and cooperation with the candidate country, Turkey, on foreign policy, regional development, security, and defense. On the other hand, it claims that [Ankara’s] alignment with the EU policy in these crucial areas is declining, which is inconsistent, to put it mildly.".
