MINSK, October 26. /TASS/. The crisis in Ukraine has become a striking example of potential tragic consequences from following the security models developed in the West, Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Mohammad Hassan Sheikholeslami said in his speech at a high-level international conference on Eurasian security.

"The crisis in Ukraine is a vivid example of how following the security model imposed by NATO has unfortunately resulted in an unnecessary and destructive war," the diplomat told the conference titled "Eurasian Security: Reality and Prospects in a Transforming World" in Minsk.

The diplomat noted that, regretfully, the current security architecture does not take into account the interests of many countries and is shaped in the interests of the West. "We are sure that any desire for dominance, unilateralism, militarization of the region, creation of military blocs, tendency to meddling in others’ affairs, especially from those that are not a country of our region, undermines our security and leads to destructive competition and tensions that eventually lead to wars," Iran's deputy foreign minister said.

The senior diplomat pointed to the necessity of creating alliances and unions, such as the Shanghai Cooperation Organization or BRICS, that can ensure the security of the countries of the region. He also called on the countries of Eurasia to develop a common security system based on the principle of its indivisibility.

The high-level international conference is taking place in Minsk on October 26-27. About 120 representatives of about 30 countries, as well as from the Commonwealth of Independent States, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization and the Collective Security Treaty Organization will discuss ways out of the current crisis of global and regional security and outline the future of Eurasian security.
