BEIRUT, October 26. /TASS/. The Iraqi-affiliated Shiite group Kataib Hezbollah has attacked a US military base in northeastern Syria, the Al Mayadeen TV channel reported.
According to the channel, the attack was carried out early Thursday morning against the US military base at the Abu Hajar airfield in the Hasakah Governorate in far northeastern Syria. No further details were given.
The TV channel added that US military bases in several Middle Eastern countries continue to be targeted by attacks. US military base Ain al-Asad in Iraq's Anbar Province was hit by a drone attack, for which the Iraqi branch of the radical Hamas movement claimed responsibility. The drone hit its targets but no information is available yet on the extent of damages or the number of casualties.
NBC News, citing the US Armed Forces’ Central Command, reported that more than 20 US soldiers were wounded in drone strikes on US bases in Iraq and Syria last week. It said that 20 servicemen were wounded at the Al-Tanf base in Syria and another four were wounded at the Ain al-Asad base in Iraq. Earlier, Pentagon spokesman Patrick Ryder confirmed that US and coalition forces were attacked ten times in Iraq and three times in Syria in the period October 17-24.
Earlier, Shiite militants demanded that the US withdraw its troops from Iraq and other countries in the Middle East. The militants’ statement said that, "the US troops must leave the region immediately; otherwise, their bases will be subject to continuous attacks.".
