G7 announcement on Russian diamonds ban expected by end of October — Reuters
"We now need the final blessing of the G7 before then translating these elements in legal texts at the European level," the diplomatic source told Reuters
LONDON, October 25. /TASS/. A statement from the Group of Seven (G7) regarding a ban on imports of Russian diamonds is expected by the end of October, Reuters reported, citing diplomatic sources.
"A G7 statement announcing a ban on imports of Russian diamonds is expected by the end of this month, followed closely by a proposal for the European Union's 12th package of sanctions on Russia, diplomatic sources said," Reuters wrote.
"We now need the final blessing of the G7 before then translating these elements in legal texts at the European level," the diplomatic source told Reuters.
Previously, European and US media reported that the G7 was working on creating a mechanism for tracking the origin of diamonds by their chemical composition, which would make it possible to identify diamonds mined in Russia and limit their imports, even if they were cut in other countries, such as India.
