Russia, China veto US-drafted Middle East resolution at UN Security Council
The draft resolution was supported by ten countries, whereas Russia, China and the UAE voted against it and two others abstained
UNITED NATIONS, October 25. /TASS/. Russia and China have vetoed the US-authored draft resolution on the Middle East at the UN Security Council, a TASS correspondent reported.
The draft resolution was supported by ten countries, whereas Russia, China and the UAE voted against it and two others abstained. The draft condemns the attack by the radical Palestinian movement Hamas on Israel, and calls for release of hostages and compliance with international humanitarian law. It does not urge a ceasefire, but recognizes countries’ right to defend themselves.
On Tuesday, Russian Permanent Representative to the UN Vasily Nebenzya said that Russia would not support the US resolution and sees no point in it, as the document has no demand for an immediate and unconditional ceasefire between the parties to the conflict.
