US will not directly intervene in Gaza, says Palestinian ambassador to Uzbekistan
Dr. Jawad Awad also noted the position of Western countries, which, he said, have inherent double standards
TASHKENT, October 25. /TASS/. The United States, which fully supports Israel in its current conflict with the Palestinian Hamas movement, will refrain from direct involvement in it, Dr. Jawad Awad, Palestinian Ambassador to Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan, has told TASS.
"The main supporter of Israel is the United States. It supports Israel materially, morally and with weapons. Behind its back, Israel feels confident, but I think that the United States will not go as far as direct involvement in the conflict," Awad said.
Awad also noted the position of Western countries, which, he said, have inherent double standards.
"Look: the whole world has gathered to support Israel - the US president, the British prime minister, and [the French President Emmanuel] Macron. They’ve all gathered to defend Israel. As if it is us and not them who are killing Gaza’s civilians," the ambassador said.
At the same time, he emphasized Russia's position on the Palestinian-Israeli conflict.
"Palestine has always appreciated Russia's position, fairness being its distinguishing feature," Awad said.
Tensions flared up again in the Middle East on October 7 when Hamas militants staged a surprise attack on Israeli territory from the Gaza Strip. Hamas described its operation as a response to the aggressive actions of Israeli authorities against the Al-Aqsa Mosque in the Old City of Jerusalem. Israel has declared a total blockade of the Gaza Strip and carried out strikes on some areas of Lebanon and Syria. Clashes are underway in the West Bank as well.
According to the latest official data, up to 5,000 Palestinians have been killed since the renewed outbreak of violence, while over 15,000 have suffered wounds. In Israel, more than 1,500 people have lost their lives and over 4,500 have been wounded.
