VIENNA, September 25. /TASS/. The 67th Annual Regular Session of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) General Conference will open on Monday in Vienna, Austria. Representatives of the organization's member countries will discuss a number of topics, including nuclear security issues in Ukraine and the application of guarantees under the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons in North Korea.

The event, which is held annually at the Vienna International Center (VIC), will continue until September 29.

Russia is sending a mission that includes representatives from Rosatom, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Federal Service for the Supervision of Environment, Technology and Nuclear Management. Rosatom CEO Alexey Likhachev previously announced that he hopes to meet with IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi on the sidelines of the General Conference on September 25.

Russia will host a number of events both on-site and online. Rosatom intends to discuss the RITM-200 reactor installation as well as its experience in nuclear facility decommissioning.

On the same day as the IAEA General Conference, a scientific forum on nuclear technology and science will be conducted at the VIC on September 26-27. International experts will debate the future role of nuclear reactors in energy production. The conference will look at the role of artificial intelligence, robotics, and digitalization in nuclear energy development. Grossi, the Director of the IAEA, will speak at the forum's start.

All plenary sessions of the conference and scientific forum will be streamed live on the organization's website daily.

Politicization of agency’s work

Ahead of the conference, Russia's permanent mission to international organizations in Vienna reported that Canada, Costa Rica, and Finland had proposed a draft resolution on "Nuclear Safety, Nuclear Security and Safeguards in Ukraine," "motivated solely by political considerations."

The draft resolution dedicated to the situation at the Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant is far from reality, the mission said.

Russia called on member countries of the organization not to support this project if it is submitted to the IAEA General Conference for consideration.
