West getting ‘sick and tired’ of Zelensky’s speeches — adviser to Ukraine’s ex-president
Oleg Soskin added that as for Ukrainian President’s visits, all he is bringing from them are only applause and cheers, which was the case with his latest trip to the United States
MOSCOW, September 24. /TASS/. Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky’s latest visit to the United States and Canada was literally futile, since the West is getting "sick and tired" of his statements, Oleg Soskin, ex-adviser to Ukraine’s former President Leonid Kuchma, said.
"He is good at speaking in public, we know that. He can do it perfectly well. They [the Western partners] can listen to him a couple of times but then they become sick and tired of his speeches," he said in a video posted on his YouTube channel.
As for Zelensky’s visits, all he is bringing from them are only applause and cheers, which was the case with his latest trip to the United States. "What was the result? Frankly speaking, nothing. <…> In the United States, he was scheduled to speak at the both Congress houses, have meetings at the highest level, and receive new packages [of assistance]. He was met with applause in Canada. And what’s the point? He was met with applause in the US a year ago, but today they don’t want to give him anything - either weapons, or money, or missiles," Soskin said, adding that Zelensky was met with applause in many countries. "And what is the result of this applause?"
Bloomberg said earlier, citing its sources, that Zelensky is beginning to see that the US support is weakening and other Western states are oriented to Washington’s position on support for Kiev and their support is weakening as well. Thus, it was reported that some of the allies are looking at linking future financial aide to Ukraine with concrete reforms in the country, including anti-corruption measures.
After Zelensky’s visit to the United States, where he took part in the United Nations General Assembly, held a series of meetings in Washington, including talks with US President Joe Biden, many US media noted that he had got a cooler reception than Kiev expected. It was also noted that Zelensky’s program in the US was much smaller than during his last year’s visit.
