North Korea set to fit all its submarines with tactical nuclear weapons
According to Kim Jong-un, his country "has a plan to transform all large submarines into attack submarines fitted with tactical nuclear weapons"
TOKYO, September 8. /TASS/. North Korea is set to modernize its entire fleet of large submarines and equip them with tactical nuclear weapons, North Korean leader Kim Jong-un said.
Earlier in the day, the country floated out its latest submarine carrying tactical nuclear weapons.
"The submarine No. 841 ‘Hero Kim Kun Ok’ is the standard type of submarine designed for a tactical nuclear attack," Kim Jong-un said.
According to the North Korean leader, his country "has a plan to transform all large submarines into attack submarines fitted with tactical nuclear weapons."
He also said that the effort will be a part of the country’s larger strategy of strengthening its navy, and is necessary for increasing the efficiency of the entire armed forces under the conditions of modern warfare.
He also stressed the need to enable the Navy to successfully carry out its strategic duty by hastening the transfer of underwater and surface vessels equipped with tactical nuclear weapons to the Navy.
North Korea’s latest submarine carrying tactical nuclear weapons was floated out in the run-up to the Day of the Foundation of the Republic, celebrated on September 9.
