BRICS summit intensive, heralds success of South Africa's diplomacy — Lavrov
The Russian foreign minister also noted the importance of encouraging the development of ties not only between the governments and parliaments of Russia and South Africa, but also at other levels
JOHANNESBURG, August 23. /TASS/. Negotiations at the BRICS summit in Johannesburg have been intensive and the event will herald another success of South African diplomacy, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has said.
"We had very intensive talks here yesterday. Their results will be summarized very soon by [South African President Cyril] Ramaphosa. I am glad at this opportunity to meet with South African parties’ leaders," Lavrov said at a meeting with Nomvula Paula Mokonyane, deputy secretary-general of South Africa's ruling African National Congress (ANC) party, and representatives of other South African political movements on the sidelines of the BRICS summit. Lavrov expressed the certainty that the Johannesburg summit would herald "another success of South African diplomacy."
Lavrov also noted the importance of encouraging the development of ties not only between the governments and parliaments of Russia and South Africa, but also at other levels.
Mokonyane thanked Lavrov for the meeting and appreciated the opportunity to listen to Russian President Vladimir Putin's address at the summit’s plenary session earlier on Wednesday.
