BERLIN, April 13. /TASS/. The German government will allow Poland to transfer Soviet-made fighter jets received by Warsaw from the former East Germany’s stockpile to Ukraine, the Suddeutsche Zeitung newspaper reported on Thursday.

The newspaper pointed out that, according to German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius, who is now in Mali, the decision "will be made as early as today." "The request has been received. And a promise has been made that an answer to our Polish partners will follow within a day," he told reporters. However, he did not confirm that Berlin's response would be positive.

Earlier on Thursday, it became known that the Polish authorities had officially asked the German government to approve the delivery of MiG-29 jets to Ukraine. According to the Suddeutsche Zeitung newspaper, the German Cabinet "does not see the deliveries as a fundamental problem."

In 2002, Germany sold 23 MiG-29 jets out of the stocks of former East Germany to Poland. According to the Polish side, now it has "about a dozen" of such fighters. In early April, Marcin Przydacz, Polish presidential international policy advisor, said on the air of the RMF radio that the Polish authorities had handed over several MiG-29 jets to Ukraine.
