BEIJING, April 6. /TASS/. China’s President Xi Jinping in a conversation with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen has dismissed as "unrealistic dreams" any expectations his country might agree to compromise and make concessions on the Taiwan issue, China’s Central Television reported on Thursday.

"Anyone who expects China to make compromises and concessions on the Taiwan issue shots oneself in the foot," Xi said. These are unrealistic dreams."

The Chinese government and people, he said, oppose the ballyhoo over the island. Xi stressed that the Taiwan issue was central to China's key interests.
