PARIS, April 6. /TASS/. China has a major role to play in building peace, French President Emmanuel Macron wrote on Twitter on Thursday ahead of talks with Chinese leader Xi Jinping.

"I am convinced that China has a major role to play in building peace. This is what I have come to discuss, to move forward on. With President Xi Jinping, we will also talk about our businesses, the climate and biodiversity, and food security," the tweet reads.

Macron arrived in China on Wednesday. This is the French president’s first trip to China since the fall of 2019. Macron plans to discuss the Ukrainian conflict and bilateral ties between France and China, particularly in the field of economy. The French leader said on Wednesday that China could play an important role in the situation around Ukraine due to its good relations with Russia. According to the Elysee Palace, the official program of Macron’s visit will end on April 7.
