Turkish presidential candidate vows to pursue policy of good-neighborliness if elected
Turkey will hold presidential and parliamentary elections on May 14
ANKARA, April 6. /TASS/. Turkish presidential candidate Sinan Ogan will pursue a policy of good-neighborliness if elected, the Russian-speaking contender told TASS on Thursday.
"Turkey’s foreign policy will be balanced, peaceful and based on good-neighborly relations. Maintaining peace in the surrounding region is a top priority for us as it will help ensure stability and economic development," Ogan, a former parliament member and founder of the Center of International Relations and Strategic Analysis (TURKSAM), pointed out.
"We would like Turkey’s relations with the EU and the US to be based on trust. We also call for maintaining Syria’s territorial integrity and view attempts to create a terrorist state of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (outlawed in Turkey - TASS) along our borders as a mistake, so we will do everything to prevent this. We call for mediation efforts in the conflict between Russia and Ukraine and Russia’s mediation in settling relations between Turkey and Syria," said Ogan, nominated by the ATA Alliance.
Turkey will hold presidential and parliamentary elections on May 14. A total of four candidates will run for president but incumbent head of state Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Republican People's Party Chairman Kemal Kilicdaroglu, who has been nominated to carry the banner of the six-party opposition Nation Alliance, are set to face off as the main presidential contenders.
