Russia does not consider West enemy, while US, NATO hostile to Moscow, expert says
Boris Zabolotsky noted that, unlike previous versions of this document that mentioned breaks from the past, the new concept emphasizes historic continuity
RIO DE JANEIRO, April 2. /TASS/. Russia presents itself as a pole of power that seeks to balance the US' unipolar world model in its updated foreign policy concept, but does not declare any hostile intentions towards the West, says Brazilian political researcher, associate professor at the Rio Grande do Sul Federal University Boris Zabolotsky.
"Russia clearly presents itself as a pole of power that seeks to balance the American unipolarity. This idea has never before been expressed so openly," he told TASS.
Meanwhile, Moscow remains open to dialogue with Western states, if they abolish unfriendly policy towards Russia.
"Russia differs from the West here, because it does not define the West as an enemy, while US and NATO strategic defense documents call Russia a ‘direct threat’ for the West," the researcher says.
Boris Zabolotsky also noted that, unlike previous versions of this document that mentioned breaks from the past, the new concept emphasizes historic continuity. According to the expert, the reference to traditional civilizational and moral values of Russia’s millennium-long history and its multinational people, "which unite European and Asian cultures," may become a basis for building of bridges with both Middle Eastern and Latin American states, as well as the West itself, "where conservative parties are on the rise.".
